we know that 3.1.8 was ok (it use .net 4.8), in the newwer version some components where changed in favour of .net sdk 2.0 causing problems.
It was revert in with 3.2.1.3 which for me (on ubuntu) runs fine.

we are trying to see now from scratch with WLS ubuntu 20.04 what is the problem.

After some test, with pure unix server and windows (WSL ubuntu 20.04 app) with different versions (3.2.0, 3.2.1 and 3.2.1.3) we found out that the mono version to be installed is "mono-complete" and not mono-devel.
Appreciate if you guys can confirm.

well done, but you should try with 3.2 or above.

It doesn't seem like that installing mono-complete is the solution, at least not for me.
I'm using the WebGrabPlus docker image from LinuxServer, which uses mono-devel.
However, what did solve this issue for me was to let the image run as root, instead of lower privileged user.
For others that might use this image, set PUID and PGID to 0 in your image, and then scrubbing works again.
@mat8861, if you need any specific information or logs, just let me know!

Hi mat8861, I'll give it a go later this evening. But like I said, webgrab++ runs fine now with mono-devel as long as it runs as root.
Installing mono-complete will allow it to work without root too? What is the relation between the mono package and running as non-root?

in our tests we did run it as root and as user (WLS ubuntu) we haven't tried with docker but on a linux server that solved the problem, i guess would be the same with a container.

Unfortunately, installing mono-complete didn't help.
Is there anything else I can try, or figure out where the issue occurs?
I'm suspecting something to do with the licensing logic. The WGLicense.log.txt file only contains
```
[ ] WebGrab++ license request and update log
[ ] 2021/08/22 20:20
```
So, running as user seems to be an issue, at least in these LinuxServer WebGrabPlus docker images.
Running wg++ in the same container as root, functions correctly.

Below the permissions settings in the containter, maybe it helps to diagnose what is going on.
User abc is a mapped UID from the hosting OS (Synology NAS in my case).

Thank you for this tip. I'm using Docker from LinuxStation and actually adding root permissions (which I don't like) webgrab works. Unfortunately, it does not download programs correctly and with most of them I have the following message:
[Info] (8/203) TV.WP.PL.E - chan. (xmltv_id = Cinemax HD) - mode Force
[Error] Unable to update channel Cinemax HD
[Critical] Generic syntax exception:
[Critical] message:

For me at least grabbing works as expected as long as it's running as root. So can't quite say why yours isn't working.
I guess you can give the LinuxServer docker image a go and see if for it works fine as root? You should be able to map the config volume to the same location as your LinuxStation image and retain your WG++ configs.

Same overhere, running the latest WG LinuxServer on Synology Docker, same error and cron seems to be ignored.
A manual update works.

Checked the installed Mono version:
Mono version: 6.12.0.122 (tarball Mon Feb 22 17:29:18 UTC 2021)

But Laibalion's suggestion is working:
"I'm using the WebGrabPlus docker image from LinuxServer, which uses mono-devel.
However, what did solve this issue for me was to let the image run as root, instead of lower privileged user.

i am curious to see if your cron is under root or under a user ? Can you check under both accounts with command:
crontab -l

Great evening Mat,

Hoping this helps:

root@Webgrabplus3:/# crontab -l
no crontab for root

FYI, this is how the docker image initializes during startup (via /etc/cont-init.d)
```
# copy config
[[ ! -e /config/WebGrab++.config.xml ]] && \
cp /defaults/WebGrab++.config.xml /config/
[[ ! -e /config/siteini.pack ]] && \
cp -R /defaults/ini/siteini.pack /config/
# warn user about changing name for crontab file
echo "******** Please use the file wg3-cron to adjust the scheduled time for running WebGrab++. wg-cron can now be deleted. ********"
# add cron file for running webgrab+plus
[[ ! -e /config/wg3-cron ]] && \
cp /defaults/wg3-cron /config/wg3-cron
crontab -u abc /config/wg3-cron
# permissions
chown -R abc:abc \
/config \
/data
```

Some more digging: in this docker image, the user abc is used to map to a UID and GID provided to the docker image in order to avoid permission issues with mapped docker volumes in the hosting OS.
When abc is mapped to root (0 UID) then the grabber runs fine.
When abc is mapped to a non-root user, then the grabbers fails with the mentioned crash in this topic.
Other than that, the image content is identical. the only difference between the 2 runs is that abc is root, or not.
Cron will run it as user abc, which can either be root, or another user, depending on how the image was started.

@Mans you need crontab under root as user labailon specified
Thanks laibalion !!
@laibalion
When you say "When abc is mapped to root (0 UID) then the grabber runs fine." Do you mean you added to sudoers or what ?

Thanks to both !

The strange thing is, i've only stopped and copied the settings of my initial WG docker to a new container and only changed the UID and GID to 0.
Even without adjusting the user folder where Cron sits in. From the command it seems non-root.

And now the Cron start on the new conatiner is working again.
I did tested the start multiple times by changing Cron eachtime.

Could it be dealing with permissions ?

No, the UID and GID of user abc is configurable from the outside the container by setting the PUID and PGID Environment variables for that Docker container.
When PUID is set to my Synology's user UID (for example 1026), abc's UID in the container will also be 1026. Files and directories created by user abc into a mapped volume, for example the /config (containing the WebGrab++.config.xml files, cookies, ini files etc) and /data (output directory for grabbed guide.xml file) folders have as Owner my Synology user and the Synology Users as Group. My TVHeadend container has the same PUID and PGID setup and that way will have also correct access to the xml file created by the WG++ container.

To make the grabbing work, I have to set PUID for the container to 0, meaning user abc will be effectively the same as root, and as such will run as root. crontab will have an entry for the abc user, and will as such also run as root.

Running manually as abc result in the same behavior, where when abc is using UID 0, it works. When abc is using UID 1026, it doesn't work.

Hi,
I'm new to docker and have issues with setting PUID=0.

I'm running docker on my RPi4 with Libreelec installed, installed webgrabplus via a addon, https://github.com/linuxserver/libreelec-addon-repo/tree/master/docker.l...

I understand how it works and I know how to set it if I create a new container but in my case I need to edit a already exciting container to start with PUID=0 etc..
I hope I can edit a file or set a value but I dont know how to do that.

from what i see in the link i posted you need to create a usera with those values:
docker create --name=beets -e PUID=1000 -e PGID=1000 linuxserver/beets
probably
docker create --name=Staffan -e PUID=1000 -e PGID=1000 linuxserver/.wg++
of course with correct path. Give a try

I should be a matter of defining the PGID and PUID environmwnt variables for your docker container. From my own experiments, it seems like I can change this even after the container is created and restarting it will update the necesairy file permissions for the configuree UID and GID

Hi and thanks for your advice..

I think I solved it by editing the file holding the configuration on how to start the container (/storage/.kodi/addons/docker.linuxserver.webgrabplus/bin/docker.linuxserver.webgrabplus). In that file the PUID and PGUI were set to value 65534 and 100.

Now when it starts it looks good.

Hi

After some issues with hardware mismatch and licens issues it's working.
Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone,

on my installation (Ubuntu 22.04 (Development Branch)) the same error appeared.

For me the resolution was to add "nameserver 8.8.8.8" to "/etc/resolv.conf".
The whole name resolution worked perfectly before except WG++ (Version 3.2.2).

Why is it not possible for WG++ to run with my internal unbound dns (configured with hyperlocal and dnsbl)?
Do you have any suggestions on this problem?

well wg does a ping to bing.com to verify there is connectivity, so to proceed with license verification. If this can be accomplished by any dns server you should not have any problem.
I also had problem with ubuntu (now use netplan) and i had to change to classic networkd, but that is an ubuntu "problem".

Thank you for the answer. Indeed netplan is used on my Ubuntu.

In the end the nameserver is also listed in the file "/etc/resolv.conf" and should resolve all queries.
For now I will go with my temporarily fix and show forward if anyone is able to solve that problem.

If i am not wrong i did the same, but as far as i remember, at server restart dns was lost again. i suggest you try a reboot, if it doesn't work, google for the solution or implement netplan with dns.
